Determinism is the philosophical view that all events and actions are predetermined by previous causes and laws. This means that the future --- at least theoretically --- is clearly predictable based on current conditions and the past. An example for a deterministic theory is classical mechanics. If we throw a ball in the exact same multiple times, we expect it to hit the same spot every time. According to common interpretations, [[Quantum Mechanics|quantum physics]] (e.g. the [[Copenhagen Interpretation|Copenhagen interpretation]]) is to be understood probabilistically: [[Measurement|measurement]] results cannot be predicted, but follow a [[Probability Distribution|probability distribution]]. Such probabilistic interpretations are not compatible with a deterministic worldview. >[!read]- Further Reading >- [[Empiricism]] >- [[Quantum Mechanics]] >[!ref]- References
