Interference describes the superposition of waves. Since both wave crests and wave troughs can overlap, interference can have both a destructive (cancelling) and a constructive (enlarging) effect.
In nature, interference occurs, for example, when two stones fall into water.
The wild pattern on the water surface that is created is due to the interference of the water waves.
