A *laser* (abbreviation for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation") is a device that amplifies and generates light by [[Stimulated Emission|stimulated emission]] of radiation. It produces a [[Coherence|coherent]] and [[Monochromatic Light|monochromatic]] beam of light.
In contrast to regular light as produced by a lightbulb, for example, laser light only contains a single frequency. While a light bulb creates a broad spectrum, laser light only contains a single frequency/color of light, it is [[Monochromatic Light|monochromatic]].
