*Neutrons* and [[Proton|protons]] are the building blocks of the [[Atom|atoms]]. They form the nucleus, the inner core of an atom. While neutrons have a similar mass to protons, they are not electrically charged.

Although believed to be fundamental for a long time, neutrons are built by three so-called [[Quark|quarks]]. These three quarks (two *down* and one *up* quark) are bound together by the [[Fundamental Forces|strong force]], the strongest interaction at the atomic length scale.
