A *quantum state* is the most complete [[Quantum Mechanics|quantum mechanical]] description of a physical system. While the classical state of a system fixes all properties, a quantum mechanical state does not fix the properties upon a given [[Measurement|measurement]], it determines the probabilities of all possible measurement outcomes.
Although the results of a measurement are probabilistic, the evolution of a wave function can be calculated exactly using the [[Schrödinger equation]].
